How do I recognize acne?

Acne is an inflammatory skin disease that appears in the form of blackheads, pimples, cysts and nodules. It mainly appears on the face, shoulders, décolleté or back. Acne is caused by an overactive sebaceous gland, usually due to hormonal fluctuations. However, an unhealthy diet with lots of sugar and fat, smoking, stress, certain medications or a disturbance in the intestinal flora can also have a negative effect on the appearance of the skin. For example, the increased production of sex hormones during puberty causes the sebaceous glands to enlarge. The characteristic blackheads occur when the pores of the skin become clogged. Bacteria play a role in this. The sebaceous glands are not only enlarged, the sebum also offers bacteria good opportunities to colonize. The likelihood of inflammation increases and pus pimples form.

The care routine for acne

In the morning

1. cleansing & make-up removal (morning and evening)

Cleansing the face is the most important step in the daily skincare ritual for acne. Huge amounts of dirt particles accumulate on the skin every day. Added to this is the increased production of sebum. Acne-prone skin in particular harbors a large number of bacteria that cause inflammation. Start cleansing by washing your face with lukewarm water. Now choose a suitable hydrosol for the next step.

Hamameliswasser (Witch Hazel Water)

To the product

Witch hazel water from the witch hazel bush has an astringent effect on large-pored, oily, acne-prone skin and soothes the skin for a smoother complexion. The plant water absorbs dirt particles and excess oil with ease.

Apply the witch hazel water to a cotton pad in the morning and evening and cleanse the face thoroughly - then turn the cotton pad to the other side and repeat. Don't forget the neck! Do not rinse off.

2. moisture

Acne skin often shows a severe lack of moisture, which must be replenished regularly. However, oily substances should not be used here so as not to clog the pores and irritate the skin further.

Niacinamide Serum

Vitamin B3 (niacin) and zinc contribute to the maintenance of normal skin. Zinc helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress and has a function in cell division. The niacinamide serum with zinc refines the skin's appearance and intensively moisturizes the skin with aloe vera. It regulates sebum production, reduces skin impurities and gives an even complexion. It is naturally free from silicones and undesirable additives. Dermatest VERY GOOD - suitable for all skin types.

To use, simply remove the cap and apply a thin layer to the entire face, neck and décolleté.

3. nourish

We recommend applying a pea-sized amount of aloe vera gel to the acne skin in the morning and evening to provide the skin with all the active ingredients. The aloe vera gel works with 200 vital substances, soothes inflammation and creates a so-called suction effect, drawing subsequent care products even deeper into the skin.

Moisturizing and care in the evening

Apply a pea-sized amount of vitamin C serum to a damp face. Vitamin C serum is a wonderful remedy for blackheads and other blemishes. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect alleviates micro-inflammations, such as those that occur in the T-zone. The serum also visibly reduces the size of pores and thus inhibits the formation of further spots. It is also a freshness boost for dry areas.

About the product

Mostly teenagers are affected by acne, but adults often also have to deal with this problem. The good news is: acne can be treated. But what causes acne? What to do about acne? Find out more below.

What causes acne?

Acne is one of the most common skin diseases - it is estimated that 85% of the population has been affected by it at some point. Teenagers in particular suffer from this skin disease due to hormonal changes during puberty. However, if acne only occurs after the age of 25, it is known as acne tarda - late acne or adult acne.

There are various factors that can cause acne. These include hyperfunction of the sebaceous glands, keratinization disorders in the sebaceous gland duct, excessive proliferation of bacteria and inflammatory reactions.

Acne vulgaris is the most common form of skin disease and is caused by hormones. More specifically, male sex hormones are responsible for acne, although they can also be produced to a greater extent in girls. The hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to increase production, sebum accumulates under the surface of the skin and causes blackheads.

Hormonal acne can also occur during pregnancy and the menopause. In addition, psychological strain and stress as well as some medications and poor diet can also be the causes of acne.

What to do about acne?

In the case of severe forms, a doctor must be consulted to draw up a treatment plan. However, in the case of mild physiological acne, appropriate skin care is usually sufficient.

Make-up, oil and excess sebum must be removed from the skin by gentle cleansing. This is the only way that important anti-acne ingredients can penetrate the skin and release their effects. It is best to cleanse the areas of skin affected by acne once a day with pH-neutral products. Make absolutely sure that the cleansers do not contain any aggressive substances. If the bacterial environment of the skin is destroyed, it could even lead to a worsening of the acne.

Then moisturize the skin with oil-free serums containing hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, niacinamide and aloe vera, for example. Retinol creams contain vitamin A acid, which is extremely effective against acne.
