Witch hazel water (Hamamelis hydrolate), also known as witch hazel water, is obtained by steam distillation from the leaves and twigs of the witch hazel shrub (Hamamelis Virginiana) is gently extracted.
For skin care, it is used as a facial toner or soothing spray, especially for oily, acne-prone, and sensitive skin. Due to its astringent (contracting) properties, it is said to shrink skin pores, soothe irritations and redness, and reduce excess oil production. Witch hazel hydrosol is also very popular for insect bites, rashes, minor burns such as sunburn, after shaving, and other skin irritations.
For the care of hair and sensitive or oily scalp, for dandruff and itching, witch hazel water can be used as a hair rinse or sprayed directly onto the skin to restore balance.
