    1 What is MS?

Multiple sclerosis, or MS for short, is an as yet incurable chronic disease of the central nervous system. MS can affect both the brain and the spinal cord and is often diagnosed in early adulthood. In healthy people, the immune system protects against pathogens, whereas in MS the immune system is directed against the body's own healthy cells. The trigger of the disease has not yet been clearly defined by researchers. It is assumed that a variety of influencing factors play a role.

    MS symptoms

    Multiple-Sklerose-MS-Hauptsyptome

At the beginning of the disease, it is not uncommon for those affected to struggle with motor disorders such as paralysis and visual disturbances. In addition to these symptoms, there may also be sensory disturbances in the form of tingling and numbness. As the disease progresses, it is possible that a feeling of stiffness may occur, which is also defined as spasticity. The disease can also cause symptoms that are not visible at first glance, such as fatigue, reduced concentration and depressive moods. All of these symptoms, whether visible or not, severely restrict the quality of life of those affected.

    2nd campaign 2023

This year's campaign has the motto: "geMeinSam - nicht allein mit Multipler Sklerose" (mySame- not alone with multiple sclerosis) and is intended to create links between those affected. The aim of this campaign is to help, support and strengthen those affected by the disease. As part of World MS Day, the DMSG provides information on what life with MS means and where help can be found. An extensive program - online and also in person - regionally or nationwide - has been put together for this purpose. Pharmacies support the campaign and draw attention to the aims of World MS Day.

    3. lack of vital substances in MS

Scientists from the American Academy of Neurology ¹ have examined data from several women with multiple sclerosis and were able to filter out vital substances that were only present in small quantities in the bodies of the women with the disease. These included magnesium, vitamin E, quercetin and folic acid.

    Magnesium

The mineral is indispensable for humans as it performs numerous vital tasks in the human organism. In addition to its anti-inflammatory effect, magnesium supports nerve and muscle function, energy production and normal bone structure. A magnesium deficiency can manifest itself in the form of calf cramps, nerve pain, stress attacks or insomnia, among other things. There are numerous magnesium products that restore the magnesium balance, such as magnesium citrate - an organic form of magnesium. For external application of magnesium, there are magnesium-rich gels and lotions or magnesium oil in the pharmacy. When choosing magnesium, make sure that it is free from chemical additives. Magnesium products from Original Zechstein Mineral offer the highest quality and purity.

    Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that is absorbed together with fats from the intestine. It is an antioxidant that can prevent the harmful effects of free radicals in the body by scavenging them. Vitamin E can strengthen the immune system and inhibit inflammation.

    Quercetin

Quercetin performs numerous functions in the body. It acts as an antioxidant and can prevent allergic reactions due to its anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects. Due to its antithrombotic effect, it can inhibit the aggregation of blood platelets and thus prevent the formation of thromboses. Quercetin can be taken in capsule form (e.g. Casida Quercetin capsules) and is used to prevent numerous complaints.

    Folic acid

Folic acid also plays a central role in human metabolism. Folic acid is one of the B vitamins. It is particularly involved in growth and cell division. A deficiency can manifest itself in the form of tiredness, gastrointestinal complaints or other typical deficiency symptoms. Vitamin B is not produced by the body itself and must therefore be ingested through food. Folic acid can be found in numerous products, including asparagus, tomatoes, peas, egg yolks and wholegrain products. A diet that regularly includes vegetables, nuts, wholemeal bread and eggs covers your vitamin B requirements.
