Patchouli oil – ideal for aromatherapy and suitable for aroma diffusers
Patchouli is a very special essential oil. The spicy scent is used in both women's and men's perfumes. It must be dosed carefully. In high concentrations it is stimulating and in low concentrations it is calming. In addition, it has an intensive skin-care, antibacterial and wound-healing effect, so it is often used in lotions, creams and baths, even for chronic skin problems such as neurodermatitis and psoriasis. Patchouli is one of the most important raw materials in fine perfumery. Magical creations arise from combinations with lavender, rose, lemon or jasmine. This elegant, erotic accent gives every fragrance blend a sensual and mysterious character.More about patchouli oil
Patchouli - or patchouli - is a labiate plant that comes from Asia and Africa. Of the more than 50 different species, the Javanese (Pogostemon heyneanus) and the Indian patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) are primarily used to obtain essential oil. The scent is intensely earthy, exotic, tart and sweet at the same time. On the one hand, the scent is known from grandmother's times, when moths and insects were scared away using natural means. Back then, patchouli was often used to protect high-quality clothing made from cashmere, wool and silk from predators. On the other hand, this fragrance experienced a renaissance in the 1960s to 1970s during the flower power era. Patchouli is one of the few essential oils that can be stored for a few years. Like a good wine, its quality can increase over time. Patchouli oil is often used in aromatherapy because of its positive psychological effects and its antiseptic effects for infections, inflammations and skin problems - try it out!Description and effects of patchouli oil
The dried flowers and leaves of the plant are used to obtain patchouli oil. The essential oil, which is characterized by its heavy and long-lasting scent, is extracted using steam distillation. Approximately 35 kg of dried leaves and flowers are required for one liter of patchouli oil. Patchouli oil contains important components of essential oils:- Camphene: stimulates the respiratory, vascular and nervous systems, promotes blood circulation and relieves pain
- Pinene: influences the autonomic nervous system and adrenal activity and can thus relieve stress, helpful for muscle pain and muscle stiffness

- Aldehydes: antiviral, calming, anti-inflammatory
- Terpenes: have an antimicrobial effect, as an odorant and as an environmentally friendly insecticide
- Ketones: highly expectorant and regenerating
