What is combination skin?

Combination skin is a skin type that combines the characteristics and unfortunately also the problems of oily and dry skin. It often occurs between the ages of 15 and 25. This skin condition seems contradictory because dry and oily skin should actually be mutually exclusive. However, both skin characteristics occur in different, adjacent areas.

Excessive sebum production affects the so-called T-zone, which consists of the forehead, nose and chin. Here you will find oily skin with typical characteristics such as enlarged, large pores, inflammation and blackheads.

The cheeks, on the other hand, appear dull, rough and dry. The pores are barely visible here and some people show red veins in their skin. The dryness on the cheeks leads to feelings of tightness. However, there are natural products that are suitable for both skin conditions.

The skincare routine for combination skin

1. cleansing & removing make-up

Facial cleansing is the most important step in your daily skincare ritual for combination skin. Our witch hazel water is an absolute skincare experience. First, wash your face thoroughly with lukewarm water. In the morning and evening, apply the witch hazel water to a cotton pad or the palms of your hands and moisten your face - then turn the cotton pad and repeat the process. Don't forget the neck! Do not wash off.

2. impurities

The next step is to apply a pea-sized amount of vitamin C serum to damp combination skin. Vitamin C serum is a wonderful remedy for blackheads and other blemishes. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect alleviates micro-inflammations, such as those that occur in the T-zone. The serum also visibly reduces the size of pores and thus inhibits the formation of further spots. It is also a freshness boost for dry areas.

In the next step, apply a pea-sized amount of aloe vera gel to the skin in the morning and evening to optimally prepare the skin for the next care step. The aloe vera gel works with 200 vital substances, for example numerous enzymes, vitamins and minerals, and forms a so-called elevator principle and draws all subsequent products into the deeper layers of the skin.

Coconut oil is also very suitable for treating blemishes and dry areas. As these are inflamed areas of skin or skin pores, the antimicrobial ingredients in coconut oil help to quickly soothe pimples and their inflammation and thus stop them from spreading. Apply 2 drops of coconut oil to the entire skin area in the evening after the vitamin C serum.

Special features of combination skin

Due to the combination of a mostly oily T-zone and dry cheeks, it is not easy to care for combination skin. While a cream that is too rich would cause pimples and blackheads in the oily areas, a mattifying cream could also dry out the cheeks. But what is the right face cream for combination skin? Do I need to use skincare for two skin types?

What is the right skincare for combination skin?

Choosing the right face cream for combination skin is no easy task. The most important thing is not to overburden combination skin. If combination skin is not too severe, face creams specially formulated for this skin type are recommended. Products with light and low-fat formulations are best suited for this.

However, if you have a very oily T-zone and very dry cheek areas, you should care for your skin with products for two skin types. A fluid or gel is suitable for a particularly oily T-zone, while the dry areas require additional care.

Products for oily areas

Mattifying creams are suitable for the oily areas of combination skin, as they absorb excess sebum and prevent pores from clogging. As oily skin areas are often prone to blemishes, you can use Casida's vitamin C serum with hyaluronic acid, for example.

Care for dry skin areas

If you have combination skin, the cheeks, neck and eye area are usually dry and need moisturizing and oil-rich care. Especially in winter, these areas need an extra dose of moisture. However, make sure that these products do not reach the T-zone. Casida Collagen Cream Peptide Filler with hyaluronic acid not only moisturizes, but also firms and smoothes pronounced wrinkles. These tend to appear in dry areas.
