Things to know about fingernails

Our fingernails are made of a hard, horny substance (keratin). Healthy nails are about half a millimeter thick and slightly curved. Each nail is firmly attached to the nail bed, only separating at the top. A small layer of skin grows over the lower edge of the nail; this cuticle protects against the penetration of germs and bacteria. Fingernails grow approximately 3 to 3.5 millimeters per month; the middle fingernail grows fastest, the little fingernail slowest. Fingernails are generally relatively robust, but some things they resent, and these things leave their mark.

What Fingernails Don't Like at All

As robust, helpful, and useful as our fingernails are, there are some things and situations they absolutely dislike. These include contact with harsh chemicals and cleaning products, unprotected gardening or housework, or overly frequent nail painting. Certain unhealthy or unbalanced eating habits, or other habits like nail biting, are also quickly visible. However, you can quickly and easily protect your nails from many of these things. By eating a healthy and balanced diet and wearing protective gloves when performing certain tasks. When it comes to nail polish, you'll also do your nails a favor by taking breaks to allow them to recover sufficiently.

The ABCs of Nail Care

The top priority (especially during times when hand disinfection is particularly frequent) is providing moisture. Moisturizing creams specifically designed for hand care should therefore be used regularly and, ideally, massaged gently and evenly onto the skin and nails several times a day. Once a week, you can treat your hands and nails to an extensive pampering program consisting of a hand bath, scrub, oil treatment, and more. Casida has a range of customized and valuable products in its range that are extremely beneficial for fingernails. A bath of milk and a few drops of our almond oil pampers hands and nails with intensive moisture, making them soft and supple. A subsequent nail oil treatment helps with dry and brittle nails. Simply gently massage our Vitamin E Oil into your nails and cuticles. Your nails will thank you for this extra care.

Should you cut or file your fingernails?

Whether you use nail scissors, clippers, or a file, it's always worth investing in high-quality nail care tools. For example, good scissors cut better, and a high-quality file doesn't wear down as quickly. This is good for your nails and, in the long run, also for your wallet. Which manicure instrument you use to trim your nails is probably a matter of taste, as none is better or worse. However, trimming your nails with a nail file is definitely the most gentle option - especially for thin, brittle, or dry nails. In any case, nails should not be cut too short, as even the smallest injuries can encourage nail fungus. Our Nail Oil Repair & Protect - a targeted blend of effective plant oils that stops bacteria and fungi and intensively nourishes nails.

Nutrient-rich nail care from within

In addition to good nail care, a healthy, balanced diet also plays a significant role in beautiful and healthy nails. Drinking enough, eating plenty of fruit and vegetables, and consuming enough fiber will do your nails a lot of good. An adequate supply of biotin provides an additional benefit. Casida Biotin Complex with Zinc and Selenium strengthens not only nails, but also skin and hair from within. Our Biotin Complex tablets contain the three most important active ingredients for naturally beautiful skin, strong fingernails, and strong hair. Our Selenium Capsule Complex also supports the body and ensures a balanced selenium level, which benefits skin, nails, and hair, among other things.
