Why do we need bitter substances?

Bitter substances have an outstanding effect on our well-being. They promote the digestive process and thus ensure improved nutrient absorption. However, our foods hardly contain any natural bitter substances anymore. Even in chicory, endive, and grapefruit, which originally tasted bitter, these highly important, protective substances are now only found in small quantities.

A well-functioning digestion with sufficient digestive enzymes is the best prevention against health problems such as upset stomach, heartburn, bloating, liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic problems. Adequate detoxification and elimination are only guaranteed when the detoxification and digestive organs function optimally. Bitter substances are also said to be helpful during cravings.

Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Postbiotics - The Differences

Prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics are all associated with (gut) health, but they play different roles. Probiotics are live microorganisms, prebiotics serve as food for them, and postbiotics are the metabolites produced during fermentation.

1. Prebiotics are non-digestible food components or substances that promote the growth and activity of certain beneficial bacteria in the gut. 2. Probiotics are live microorganisms, mostly bacteria. They should be consumed in sufficient quantities. There is growing evidence that postbiotics may have numerous health benefits. These include supporting intestinal health and immune function, although the evidence is still inconsistent.
