For most of us, (solid) deodorant is part of our daily body care routine. But everyone has their own preferences: Some apply their deodorant in the morning after showering, others before sport, others as a refresher in between or before a social contact. But not all deodorants are the same: There is spray, stick, roller, solid deodorant - but they all have the same function: to prevent, remove or eliminate the smell of sweat. That's what makes them so popular. Whether you prefer to spray, roll or apply cream is a question of conviction - and recently also an environmental issue, as ingredients and packaging are playing an increasingly important role.

1. what is actually in deodorants?
Whether spray or cream deodorants - most commercially available deodorants contain:
- Antimicrobial agents to kill the bacteria responsible for causing odor on the skin.
- Fragrances, such as mint or clove oil, which mask body odor.
- Special odour absorbers (e.g. zinc and sodium hydrogen carbonate), which absorb and neutralize odour-forming compounds.
- Aluminum salts - these have fallen into disrepute in the past, however, as they can allegedly promote the development of breast cancer and/or dementia. Many deodorants in the natural cosmetics sector therefore do not contain this active ingredient.
- Preservatives, synthetic fragrances and alcohol are also often used. However, these ingredients can promote allergic reactions. They are not contained in natural cosmetic deodorants.
2. solid deodorant: The environmentally friendly alternative
More and more fans of zero waste/less waste are swearing by solid deodorant. It does not contain any propellants and comes in environmentally friendly packaging. It contains no aluminum salts or other harmful ingredients. It is also usually much more economical than other types of deodorant and therefore saves on waste. Its purely natural, often bio-verified ingredients ensure a fresh, natural scent under the armpits.
