You've probably come across micellar water a few times while browsing the drugstore or online beauty store. The product has become a real beauty favorite in recent years and should no longer be missing from your bathroom. But what exactly is micellar water, what are micelles all about and how do you use the product? We tell you everything you need to know about the new beauty all-rounder.
Table of contents
1. what are micelles?
Micelles are tiny surfactant molecules that have an affinity for both water and oil. This gives them an almost magnetic attraction to dirt particles and sebum. Their small size also allows them to penetrate deep into the inner layers of the skin instead of just staying on the surface.
2 What is micellar water?
Micellar water relies on the power of micelles and is suitable as a cleansing product as well as a make-up remover and toner. It can even take over the task of your facial care and provide your skin with all the active ingredients it needs. This means that micellar water can replace your conventional skincare and is perfect for when you need to do things quickly in the morning or evening and don't feel like doing a full beauty routine. In the form of micellar wipes, you can also benefit from the properties of micelles on the go and can easily cleanse and refresh your face in between - practical when traveling or doing sports, for example.
3. how does micellar water work?
The micelles in micellar water envelop both dirt and make-up, removing them from the skin in no time at all. They also absorb excess sebum and unclog pores - perfect if you have oily and blemished skin. At the same time, the micelles can transport other active ingredients contained in the micellar water into the deeper layers of your skin, where they can unfold their full effect. While other products can damage your skin's protective acid mantle, micellar water leaves it intact.
4 How do I use it?
You can use micellar water - just like your usual skincare products - in your morning and evening routine. Use a cotton pad or cotton ball and apply it to your skin. Alternatively, use a cleansing cloth that is already soaked in micellar water. As the micelles quickly absorb the water- and oil-soluble particles, you don't need to apply any pressure. All you need to do is lightly wipe the cotton pad over your skin. You can simply refresh your face and prepare it for the following care steps or use the micellar water to remove your make-up. You can even gently remove your eye make-up.
5 Which skin type is micellar water suitable for?
Generally speaking, it is suitable for all skin types. As it cleanses the skin thoroughly yet gently, even people with sensitive skin can use the product without any problems. Important: Micellar water is available with different active ingredients. Choose a type that is adapted to your individual skin type and is as natural as possible. For example, Casida's micellar water contains chamomile water, olive and spruce extract and does not contain any irritating preservatives or alcohol. It is suitable for cleansing your skin, soothes it and provides it with plenty of moisture.
