1 What is baking soda actually?

Baking soda is often mistakenly referred to as baking powder, but these terms should not be confused. Baking soda or sodium hydrogen carbonate is a white powder that is just one of the ingredients of baking powder. Popular names also include baking soda, baking soda, sodium bicarbonate and sodium bicarbonate. Sodium and hydrogen carbonate are in turn components of baking soda. Baking soda breaks down into its components when it is dissolved in water.

2 How can baking soda help against colds?

The ancient Romans and Greeks already used baking soda as a remedy. Even today, the white powder is still used to help with colds and flu. This is mainly due to its alkaline pH value. Baking soda can neutralize acids, which helps the body to fight infections. Baking soda also has an antiseptic effect and can help to keep bacteria and viruses under control during infections, e.g. gargling with bicarbonate of soda is said to relieve sore throats. Anyone suffering from a cold or flu often feels weak. In this case, strengthening the body with baking soda is recommended. Simply take a glass of water with half a teaspoon of baking soda every few hours for a few days.

In addition to colds, baking soda is also often used to prevent hyperacidity of the body, for sore muscles and many other complaints and illnesses.

3 Which baking soda is best?
