How smell training helps?
Research on the loss of smell, particularly in relation to Covid-19, is a hot topic. Research currently assumes that damaged olfactory cells are the cause. The olfactory cells in the nasal cavity renew themselves every four to six weeks and can be trained through targeted stimulation*. It is assumed that through specific and regular stimuli, neuronal connections are established in the brain and that smelling can be “re-learned” again. Like any physical and mental training, smell training requires patience. For several months, different scents are sniffed for about 30 seconds in the morning and evening. Only 100% natural essential oils – from Casida, for example – which are free of synthetic fragrances, can be used.

Note for patients with asthma:
If you suffer from asthma, use essential oils very carefully. Pure essential oils can trigger an asthma attack. If necessary, dilute the oils with an odorless, unscented carrier oil or use fruit or flowers directly to train your sense of smell.
General note:
Smell training involves hardly any risks. Nevertheless, a specialist medical clarification of the symptoms should be carried out. Specialized olfactory outpatient clinics or olfactory consultations (e.g. at university clinics) are recommended.
