As temperatures rise, so do the unloved bloodsuckers. In the summer months, we often have to deal with these annoying creatures.

But there are effective, natural alternatives to the conventional chemical bombs that you can use to repel mosquitoes and treat mosquito bites - namely with the help of natural essential oils.     Mosquito bites are unpleasant and so it is natural to want to avoid them in the first place. Various oils can help you get rid of mosquitoes on warm summer evenings. These include: Rosemary oil, eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, patchouli oil and cedar oil - but why? The reason is the scents of the oils, because they repel mosquitoes. Oils such as peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary have very strong odors. Patchouli and cedar oil, on the other hand, also confuse mosquitoes with their scents.

    Applying the oils is simple and quick - for example with the help of fragrance lamps and diffusers. It is important to note that just a few drops of the oils mentioned above diluted with water will help. You can also make your own DIY anti-mosquito skin cream. You only need two ingredients for this: pure natural essential oil and a base oil. The essential oils that help are listed above. Suitable base oils include olive oil, jojoba oil, almond oil and coconut oil.

    • Mix 100g of base oil with just 4-8 drops of the oil of your choice
    • Apply this mixture thinly to your skin - done!

Tea tree oil is an all-rounder among essential oils, so it also helps with mosquito bites. It soothes the pain, relieves itching, has a healing and decongestant effect. Another positive property is the scent of tea tree oil, which also repels mosquitoes.

    Use on children: When applying to children, care should be taken to use gentler oils. These include lavender oil and patchouli oil, as these react gently to the skin.

    Caution: When dosing, make sure that you do not act according to the motto "more helps more". Just a few drops of the all-natural oils help to repel mosquitoes and treat mosquito bites. The effectiveness of natural essential oils is limited, so repeated application is necessary to achieve the best possible effect.
